Ashley Gonzalez is a junior marketing major from Spring Valley, Ill. Gonzalez transferred to Aurora University from Illinois Valley Community College at the start of the 2013-14 academic year. For Gonzalez, choosing a university to transfer to was a difficult decision that was made after a lot of self-reflection. She wanted to get the full college experience, but at a university where she was able to grow and share her values.
“The Aurora University invitation to ‘discover what matters and build your life around it’ became my life motto as I started at a new school,” said Gonzalez.
Gonzalez’s transition to AU has been smooth. She’s joined several student organizations where she has been able to be active across campus and make new friends. Currently, Gonzalez is a transfer senator for the Aurora University Students’ Association, a member of the Latin American Student Organization and part of the American Marketing Association.
“I really feel like I have a niche here with my new AU family and it has made my experience at AU that much better,” Said Gonzalez. “The best advice I can give to future transfer students is to try to live on campus to get the full college experience of meeting new people, getting involved in organizations and gaining leadership positions.”
Each year, approximately 45 percent of Aurora University’s entering class is comprised of transfer students—people who believe AU’s supportive, student-centered environment will help them finish what they started.
