In honor of Hispanic Heritage month, which is celebrated September 15 to October 15, “Unyielding Light: Paintings and Prints by Emilio Sanchez” will be on display at the Aurora University Schingoethe Art Gallery from September 20 to December 7. The display in Dunham Hall, 1400 Marseillaise Place, is free to the public. An opening reception will be held on September 20 from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m., and all are invited to come enjoy music and refreshments while viewing the collection.

While living in Cuba, early in his life, Sanchez found fascination with the way light and shadow appear on colored forms. He began incorporating these elements into his art pieces and later they became a signature characteristic of his work. The “Unyielding Light” series displays these themes of light and shadow in the form of oil, watercolor and print.

If you are unable to make the opening reception you can view the collection during normal gallery hours. Gallery hours are 8 a.m.–9 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Friday; and 1–4 p.m. Sunday.

The Schingoethe Art Gallery will also be hosting a variety of other events this fall.
