The eighth season of the Celebrating Arts and Ideas series will begin on Tuesday, September 24, at 7:30 p.m. with a presentation by Jon Meacham, known as one of Americaâ€™s most prominent public intellectuals. The free lecture is open to the public and will take place in Crimi Auditorium at 407 S. Calumet Ave.
Meacham is the author of Thomas Jefferson: The Art of Power, a No. 1 New York Times bestseller that has been named one of the best books of 2012 by The New York Times Book Review and The Washington Post. He also is the author of American Lion, the bestselling 2008 biography of Andrew Jackson, which earned him the Pulitzer Prize. His other books, Franklin and Winston and American Gospel are New York Times bestsellers as well.

Executive editor and executive vice president of Random House, Meacham is a contributing editor to Time magazine, a former editor of Newsweek, and has written for The New York Times and The Washington Post, among other publications. He is a regular contributor on Meet the Press, Morning Joe and Charlie Rose.
