It’s been quite a season for softball player Elaine Walker. The junior infielder and All-Conference First-Team honoree hit .415 on the year with 53 runs scored, 39 runs batted in, 17 doubles, four triples and seven home runs. She also held a .684 slugging and .460 on-base percentage. While impressive statistics highlight her efforts on the field, Walker is also focusing on numbers as an aspiring accountant.
For Walker, playing softball and studying accounting is the perfect blend. “It starts with Coach McKenzie and his emphasis on the classroom first,” she said. “He’s definitely contributed to my success on and off the field. He is very flexible with practice times and understands how crazy schoolwork and softball can get. He always encourages me to be my best as a student and as an athlete.”
Those efforts have paid off as Walker looks to her future. After graduation next year, she plans to continue at Aurora University as part of the Master of Business Administration Plus One Degree Program. “I think staying at AU right after my undergraduate experience will best prepare me in pursuit of my CPA license,” she said.
In the meantime, Walker is excited about her senior year and the prospects for a great softball season. “We had a lot of young players this year and we did a good job,” she said. “Now with our first season at Spartan Athletic Park behind us and the potential coming into next year, I’m confident we will make it into the regional tournament!”
