Longtime trustee and GWC alumnus Del Arsenault passed away this week. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from George Williams College in 1962 and 1966, respectively. Del dedicated his career to serving others, holding leadership roles at YMCA organizations in Chicago and in Rochester, New York, and at Chicago Youth Centers. GWC honored him with its Distinguished Alumni Award in 1983, and AU awarded him the Outstanding Leadership in Human Services Award in 1994 and the Simeon B. Chapin Award in 2014.
“Del Arsenault embodied the George Williams College tradition of service, leadership and compassion,” said Aurora University President Rebecca L. Sherrick. “Over the course of his long and distinguished career, Del put his GWC education to work in settings large and small. He was a thoughtful architect of the merger between Aurora and George Williams, always intent on preserving the very best of both traditions. Whether leading as the CEO of a large Chicago human service organization or chairing a committee of the Board of Trustees, Del put the needs of others first. He will be missed.”
Del’s funeral service was held on Sunday, February 5 at Saint Pauls United Church of Christ in Chicago.
In honor of Del’s legacy, Aurora University will establish the Delbert and Barbara Arsenault Lectureship Fund. Offer your support online or by mail to Office of Development and Alumni Relations, Aurora University, 347 S. Gladstone Ave., Aurora, IL 60506.
