Perhaps more rewarding than a Spartan win is the feeling AU student-athletes have when they serve the community. This past year, every team — representing 24 varsity sports — volunteered four times with Triple Threat Mentoring and the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry. This means that over the course of the year, 250 Aurora University student-athletes helped at-risk youth and more than 800 assisted with the food pantry. In addition, teams volunteered with Feed My Starving Children; Head Start; Libby’s Place, the on-campus food pantry; Reading Across America; Special Olympics; and Wayside Ministries, among other organizations.
These efforts were recognized in the spring with the National Association of Division III Athletic Administrators Community Service Award. Part of the recognition included a $1,000 gift for AU scholarships.
