Choirs to perform at home before going on the road

AU ChoirVisitors to Parolini Music Center are sure to be impressed with the dramatic sounds of singing and instruments that emanate from room to room. More than 40 students are preparing for one of their most favorite events of the year—the annual concert tour.  The Aurora University community will have an opportunity to preview the tour with a special home concert featuring the Chorale, Chamber Choir and Men’s Quartet on Tuesday, February 25, 2014, at noon in Crimi Auditorium.

“Our students are looking forward to the opportunity to bond more fully through singing and traveling together,” said Lisa Fredenburgh, Director of Choral Activities. “While they have a lot of fun rehearsing, there is also a lot of work involved as evidenced by their improved singing, both individually and as a group. The students really take pride in their tour experiences, which are sometimes life changing. When students are traveling, they can be totally focused on their singing and their work together as an ensemble.”

The concert tour will bring the students to Indianapolis for several performances during the first weekend in March. The concerts will feature a variety of music, including a nature-oriented program at the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art which is hosting an exhibit on Ansel Adams. The concerts also will feature performances by Joshua Baum, Assistant Professor of Music, and senior music major Ashley Wenzel on piano.

The tour is the result of a growing music program both in size and strength. “We are creating an encouraging yet challenging atmosphere where students can hone their musical skills,” said Fredenburgh. “All of the ensembles are performing increasingly difficult music and student soloists are excelling and even gaining positions outside of Aurora University in local musical theater companies and European summer programs.”
