Spartan spirit was recognized during halftime of the Sugar Bowl on ESPN earlier this month. AU senior defensive lineman Tyler Simmons was named by the American Football Coaches Association to the 2013 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, a program which honors football student-athletes for exemplary community service.
Aurora University has a strong athletics department, but it is the athletic training students that are behind the latest “game winner.” It was recently announced that the Class of 2013 athletic training students had an outstanding 100% pass rate on the Board of Certification (BOX) Exam, an exam graduates must pass after receiving their degree in order to practice in the field of Athletic Training.
A week after moving to one win away from 1,000 in the history of the Aurora University men’s basketball program, the Spartans traveled to Mequon, Wis. and defeated Concordia University Wisconsin 88-80. The win gave the Spartans the impressive 1,000th win in the program’s 102 seasons.
The Aurora University hockey team is seven games into the 2013-2014 season and hold a 6-1 overall record. Spartan fans have noticed a significant improvement in the program’s second season of competition.
The AU community hosted Homecoming 2013 with festivities throughout the weekend, including a dedication of the Wackerlin Center for Faith and Action addition, all-campus lunch and Arts and Ideas concert featuring jazz artist John Pizzarelli.
