Hispanic Heritage Board honors AU professor for commitment to Latino community

For her work with Aurora University Hispanic students and the Latino community in Aurora, Assistant Professor Eva Serrano was presented with the Pete Perez Award at the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board’s 10th annual community breakfast on Friday. Serrano gave the keynote address.

Lunch and Learn series brings AU business experts to community

Together with the Batavia Chamber of Commerce, the AU Dunham School of Business is offering a six mini-course series for area business owners, executives and community members. These 30-minute sessions, held over lunch at area business locations, focus on growth strategies for companies both small and large.

AU professor and graduate honored for work in gifted education

Ann Butcher, Director of the Aurora University Young Scholars program and a two-time AU graduate, has been honored by the Illinois Gifted Children Association with their Distinguished Service Award for her work in the field of gifted education over the past 23 years.

Girl with the Whiteboard makes local TV appearances

AU student Lauren Lawson, also known as The Girl With the Whiteboard, continues to inspire people through her project. She was featured on the morning news on Dec. 31 during the “ABC-7 Chicago Salutes” segment and was named “Greatest Person of the Day” by The Huffington Post on Dec. 27.

While feverish and bedridden during an illness, Lauren Lawson pondered new careers. Her mind kept leading her back to wanting to help people. Lawson decided to share simple messages of hope and motivation with the world. The Girl With the Whiteboard was born.
