Hundreds of new students will be given tools for success during the “Building U” Welcome Weekend event on Aug. 23–26. AU faculty and staff and student peer advisors will be greeting approximately 500 freshman and transfer students during the kickoff to the academic year.
Welcome Weekend will provide fun opportunities for the newest members of the AU community to become better acquainted with the campus and university resources and programs. Each event will reflect the “Building U” construction theme.
During the weekend, students will attend sessions focusing on academic success, campus life and health and safety issues. Optional activities will include socials and sessions about opportunities on campus, such as student employment and intramural sports.
“Welcome Weekend is a great way for new students to start forming connections and developing new relationships,” said Brandy Skierkiewicz, Director of Student Engagement. “When new students arrive on Thursday, faculty, staff and peer advisors assure them of a smooth transition to college. By the end of the weekend, the students are ready and excited to start their first week of school.”
For most new students, Welcome Weekend complements the AU4U registration and orientation program held earlier in the summer. Both events are designed to help students succeed in and out of the classroom.
