Aurora University alumnus Jimmie Delgado recently was appointed by the Waubonsee Community College Board of Trustees to replace a former trustee who had resigned. Delgado will finish the remainder of that member’s term, which ends in 2017.
After high school, Delgado enrolled at Waubonsee Community College and then spent two years at Aurora University completing his bachelor’s degree in business administration.
“I believe that education improves our community by enabling new possibilities for the people in our community,” Delgado said. “As a Waubonsee alum, there is no greater honor than helping future Waubonsee students reach their goals.”
As a board member, Delgado will relay local residents’ feedback to help make decisions that are best for both the college and the community.
“I represent a diverse group of people in a large geographic region,” he said. “We are in a tough economic reality, and I think my responsibility is to balance this reality with responsible investments in education to build a better future.”
In addition to being a newly appointed board member, Delgado is currently the controller at Fox Metric Water Reclamation District in Oswego, and he has more than 12 years of experience as an accountant. He also will be graduating from Aurora University with a Master of Business Administration degree this May, and has already been able to apply the knowledge gathered throughout his program to his current positions.
“Higher education was always a part of my plan. I reached a point in my life where my career and personal goals required a master’s degree,” he said. “My undergrad experience at AU was great, so I didn’t want to go anywhere else as I took the next step in my education.”
